Important Disclaimer

The MistPro Portable Mesh Nebulizer is a drug delivery device — it does not include medication. Medications used in the MistPro must be:
  • Appropriate for nebulization (not all medications are formulated for inhalation)
  • Obtained with a valid prescription (for most respiratory medications) or purchased OTC (for saline)
  • Administered under healthcare provider guidance for clinical conditions

Over-the-Counter (No Prescription Required)

Saline Solution for Inhalation (0.9% NaCl)

The most widely used OTC nebulizer solution. Isotonic saline (0.9% sodium chloride) is:
  • Safe for all ages including infants
  • Helpful for airway hydration and mucus thinning
  • Used for RSV, croup, bronchiolitis, nasal congestion, and post-illness recovery
  • Available as single-use vials on Amazon (search: “saline for nebulizer” or “sterile saline inhalation solution 0.9%“)

Hypertonic Saline (3% or 7% NaCl)

More concentrated saline solutions used for mucus mobilization in bronchiolitis and cystic fibrosis. Available OTC in some formulations. Consult your physician for use in infants.

Prescription Medications (Rx Required)

The following medications are commonly used in home nebulizers and are compatible with the MistPro:

What NOT to Nebulize

Not all liquids are safe to nebulize. Do not put the following in the MistPro:
  • Essential oils — not formulated for inhalation at the particle sizes produced; may cause lung inflammation
  • Water (tap or distilled) — can cause bronchoconstriction; use isotonic saline only
  • Sterile water alone — hypotonic solution can trigger airway reactivity
  • IV formulations — not all IV-grade solutions are appropriate for nebulization
  • Oral liquid medications — unless specifically formulated for inhalation
  • Any substance not specifically labeled for inhalation

How Mesh Nebulizer Technology Handles Medications

The MistPro’s vibrating mesh does not heat or chemically alter medications — medications are delivered at ambient temperature. This is important for:
  • Heat-sensitive proteins or biologics that would denature in ultrasonic nebulizers
  • Preserving drug potency — no thermal degradation
  • Consistency across treatments — the same particle distribution every session
Some medications (particularly viscous solutions) may not be well-suited to mesh nebulization. Your pharmacist or physician can advise on whether your specific prescription is appropriate for the MistPro.

Saline: Getting Started Without a Prescription

For new MistPro users who want to start immediately — or parents wanting to use the device for infant congestion:
  1. Purchase 0.9% sterile saline solution for inhalation (unit-dose vials, sometimes called “nebulizer saline” or “SWFI” — sterile water-free for injection is NOT the same)
  2. Use 2–4ml per session
  3. Breathe normally through the mask for 5–10 minutes until cup is empty
This provides immediate airway hydration benefit with no prescription required.
