Clinoptilolite zeolite is a natural aluminosilicate, so aluminum is part of its crystal structure — but in clinoptilolite that aluminum is locked into a stable framework, and human research reports it is not meaningfully absorbed into the body. The bigger practical safety issue is source purity, which is why third-party testing for heavy metals matters more than the aluminum in the mineral itself.
This page is general education, not medical advice. If you have kidney disease or any condition affecting how your body handles minerals, talk to your clinician before using zeolite or any binder.

Why does zeolite contain aluminum at all?

Zeolites are a family of minerals built from repeating silicon, aluminum, and oxygen units arranged in a rigid, cage-like lattice. That structure is exactly what gives clinoptilolite its useful properties as a selective gut-level binder. So aluminum isn’t an additive or contaminant here — it’s a structural part of the mineral, held in place by strong chemical bonds.

Is that structural aluminum absorbed by the body?

Reviews of clinoptilolite in humans report that it is generally well tolerated, including at gram-level doses over extended periods, without evidence of meaningful aluminum uptake from the intact mineral. The aluminum stays bound in the framework as the zeolite passes through the digestive tract. This is different from soluble aluminum salts, which behave very differently — so “zeolite contains aluminum” does not mean “zeolite raises your body’s aluminum.”

What actually matters for safety?

  • Source purity and testing. Natural zeolite deposits vary, and can carry trace heavy metals from the ground. Choose clinoptilolite that is transparently sourced and third-party tested.
  • Hydration. Binders can contribute to constipation if you’re under-hydrated — drink a full glass of water with each dose.
  • Medication spacing. Take zeolite at least 2 hours apart from medications, since binders can affect absorption.
  • Special situations. Anyone pregnant, nursing, in cancer treatment, or with kidney concerns should check with a clinician first.

How does Plastiq Off address this?

Plastiq Off uses micronized clinoptilolite zeolite made in the USA and is third-party tested and produced in an FDA-registered, cGMP facility — the sourcing-and-testing checklist that matters most. Its serving is a modest 100 mg of zeolite per 2 mL, taken once daily with water.
If you have reduced kidney function or are concerned about aluminum or heavy-metal exposure specifically, that is a conversation for your clinician — not something to self-manage with a supplement. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
