Spectrum 5 Dosage Guide

Standard Dosage

ParameterRecommendation
Serving Size2 capsules
Magnesium Per Serving500mg
Servings Per Bottle15
FrequencyOnce daily
TimingWith a meal
For most adults, the standard dose is 2 capsules (500mg) once daily with food. This dose aligns with the upper range of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for magnesium in adults (310–420mg/day) and is within the range used in most clinical trials demonstrating benefit for sleep, muscle recovery, and anxiety.

Timing Recommendations by Goal

GoalBest Timing
General health / maintenanceMorning or noon with a meal
Sleep improvement30–60 minutes before bed
Muscle recoveryWithin 30 minutes after exercise
Stress / anxietyEvening or whenever stress peaks
Digestion supportWith dinner
There is no single “correct” timing for magnesium supplementation — the most important factor is consistency. Choose a time that fits your routine and stick to it.

Split Dosing Option

Some individuals absorb magnesium better when the dose is split across two meals. If you experience any digestive sensitivity at the full 500mg dose, try:
  • Morning: 1 capsule (250mg) with breakfast
  • Evening: 1 capsule (250mg) with dinner
Split dosing increases total daily absorption in some people by reducing the amount of magnesium competing for intestinal transport at any one time.

Duration

Magnesium builds up in tissues over 4–6 weeks of consistent supplementation. Many users notice benefits within the first 1–2 weeks, but full effects — especially for bone density and long-term metabolic health — develop over months. Minimum recommended trial period: 4 weeks before evaluating effectiveness.

Source: National Institutes of Health, Office of Dietary Supplements The Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) for supplemental magnesium in adults is 350mg/day from supplements specifically (not counting dietary magnesium from food). Spectrum 5 at 500mg exceeds this UL from supplement sources alone. The UL exists because of laxative effects at high doses, not toxicity. If you are concerned, consult your healthcare provider about the appropriate dose for your individual needs.

Adjustments for Special Populations

Athletes / High-Activity Individuals: May benefit from the full 500mg dose daily, particularly if experiencing muscle cramps, fatigue, or poor recovery. Older Adults (65+): Intestinal magnesium absorption declines with age. The full dose is generally appropriate. Consult your doctor if you have kidney disease. Pregnant/Breastfeeding: Consult your OB/GYN before starting magnesium supplementation. Magnesium supplementation during pregnancy has evidence for reducing leg cramps and may reduce preeclampsia risk, but medical supervision is appropriate. Children: Not recommended for children under 12 without medical supervision. Kidney Disease: Individuals with impaired kidney function should not supplement with magnesium without physician guidance, as the kidneys are the primary route of magnesium excretion.
Always take Spectrum 5 with food. Taking magnesium on an empty stomach may cause loose stools in some individuals, particularly at 500mg doses. Food slows gastric transit and allows more time for intestinal absorption.
