What does an air conditioner actually filter?
Most air conditioners have a coarse filter, but it exists mainly to protect the unit’s coils from large debris, not to clean the air you breathe. These filters are low on the MERV scale and capture very little fine particulate. A window or portable AC recirculates and cools air; a central AC filters only when the system is actively running and only to its (usually modest) filter grade.What does an air purifier do that an AC doesn’t?
