# Where to Place an Air Purifier (and Where Not To)

> The best placement for an air purifier to maximize clean air, common placement mistakes that reduce performance, and room-by-room tips.

Even the best air purifier underperforms in the wrong spot. A few simple placement choices make a noticeable difference in how quickly and thoroughly your air gets cleaned.

<Note>
  These are general placement principles. For sizing your unit to a space, see [room coverage](/air-purifier/room-coverage); the SonoHealth [AirPro](/air-purifier/overview) cleans 430 sq ft in about 10 minutes and up to 1,200 sq ft in 30 minutes.

## Where should I put an air purifier?

Place it in the room where you spend the most time — usually the bedroom or main living area — with open space around it. Because the AirPro uses a [360-degree intake](/air-purifier/how-it-works), it draws air from all sides, so a relatively central or near-seating position works well. A spot near common pollution sources (a litter box, an entryway, near a [pet area](/air-purifier/for-pets)) can also help.

## Where should I avoid placing it?

* **Tight corners or behind furniture**, which block airflow to and from the unit.
* **Under shelves or in cabinets**, which trap the clean-air output.
* **Damp areas** like directly next to a shower; humidity isn't ideal for filters.
* **Hidden, low-traffic spots** far from where you actually breathe.

## Does height matter?

Many pollutants and allergens circulate throughout a room, so floor level or a low table both work. Keep the intake and outlet unobstructed and leave a clear gap from walls. Avoid placing it where curtains or bedding can cover the airflow path.

## Bedroom and nursery placement

For sleep, position the AirPro a few feet from the bed so clean air circulates around you without the airflow blowing directly on your face. Its [Night Mode runs at about 25 dB](/air-purifier/for-bedrooms), quiet enough for a bedroom or nursery.

## One unit or several?

One purifier treats one room well; closed doors limit how far clean air travels. For a [multi-room home](/air-purifier/room-coverage), run the unit in your highest-priority room (often the bedroom) or consider additional units. Keeping interior doors open helps air circulate.
